Australia-based photography stories shot & narrated by Alex.

Within these minimalist frames, I embrace the occasional occurrence of imperfections, reminding us that even within the flaw lies a unique narrative. The Mono No Aware Journal invites you to witness a photographer’s journey in seeking to immortalize the beauty in the ordinary and the fleeting whether found in architecture, nature or people.

NSW Outback

Pictures captured during a motorcycle journey across New South Wales evoke the stark remoteness and rugged beauty of the landscapes, portrayed through ominous open skies and dramatic scenery. The distinctive colors and textures of this part of Australia are gracefully portrayed using medium format photography.

People of Makassar

Photo documentary exploring the Makassar blue-collar hub, namely the port of Paotere. This series produced a mash-up of colours, texture and dull skies rendered by my Hasselblad 500C using Kodak Ektar 100.

Summertime in Maluku

Few places in the world remain unspoiled by modernity. The famed Spice Islands in Indonesia is one of them. This black and white series tries to convey the rich history and tropical hospitality found in central Maluku.

PEOPLE OF JAVA

A few moments in time through the lens of my Nikonos V loaded with Kodak Ektachrome 100, attempting to render Java’s culture and feels. Each frame brought to life the vibrancy and depth of these mysterious and enchanting characters.

Sydney Winter nostalgia

Late August in Sydney, touched by sunlight, evokes memories of simpler times. Roaming the streets, capturing that vintage charm amid Sydney's cool, laid-back winter vibes.

Waka Waka

Monochrome photographs unveiling South Africa’s raw beauty and the untamed contrasts of the rainbow nation. A weird sense of serenity and beauty in a midst of perpetual chaos.

Rajpu t & Mughal Architecture

As my architectural inclinations have evolved towards the brushed mid-century aesthetic, I retain an appeal for the captivating geometry and vibrant palettes adorning Rajput and Mughal edifices in Rajasthan. Under the blue tints of the North Indian sky, an untainted pastel canvas unfolds. It's a timeless connection, where ancient forms and vivid hues harmonize within each frame.

FAr North Queensland

Journey into the heart of Far North Queensland—Hinterland pools and wild tropics featuring minimalist B&W vibes. Cherished memories of a dreamed life spent in the rain forest.

Newcastle Ocean Baths

A balmy spring evening in Newcastle East, reminiscence of simple pleasures swimming in ocean pools watching the sunset over the city. Australian culture at its finest.

Eastern Sydney Escarpments

An homage to the legendary Ansel Adams with photographs of Eastern Sydney escarpments. Their rugged terrain and dramatic vistas, inspiring me to capture beauty in black and white, just as Ansel had done with the American wilderness.
